ASU Prospects Showing off in the Bigs
Arizona State has a phenomenal baseball program and now more of the country is starting to see the quality of players that come out of that program. With the stellar play of Dustin Pedroia and Andre Ethier over the last few years, Arizona State has a proven track record for producing quality major leaguers, this year is no different. Two young stars have emerged from ASU to make an immediate impact on the majors. Pitcher Mike Leake and First Baseman Ike Davis.
Mike Leake was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds with the 8th overall pick in the 2009 MLB Draft. Leake is a rarity in baseball this day and age in that he did not pitch at all in the minors. This move has gotten so much pub that Sports Illustrated even featured an article about it. Leake yesterday got his first career victory for the Reds. It was also the first victory for a Reds starting pitcher this year. He is 1-0 with a 3.92 ERA and 13 strikeouts on the young season.
Ike Davis made his debut with the New York Mets on 4/19/10 and has made an immediate impact in the lineup and on the field. He is hitting .400 in his four games with three runs scored and one RBI. However, his phenomenal defensive play has gotten him most of the attention. Since Davis joined the Mets they have gone 3-1 and look to have found a solid first baseman for years to come.
Congrats to both Davis and Leake for making it to the show! We are excited to see the youth movement going forward as Pac10Pros make their mark on the diamond!

Pac10Pros Power on Display
Last night some prominent Pac10Pros flexed their muscles on the diamond. Chase Utley (UCLA) hit two homeruns, while Carlos Quentin (Stanford), Troy Glaus (UCLA), Dustin Pedroia (Arizona St) each hit one homerun.
Quentin's was by far the most impressive of the night, since the bases were loaded when he unloaded on the baseball. His grand slam helped him to a total of 6 RBIs on the evening. Unfortunately, another Pac10Pro Brandon Morrow (Cal) was the victim of Quentin's solid night. Morrow is still trying to find his groove after missing most of spring training with an injury.
