Gilbert's Poor Decision Costs Him the Rest of the Season

Gilbert Arenas (Arizona) has been suspended for the remainder of the NBA season. Commisioner David Stern issued the suspension as a result of Arenas bringing a gun into an NBA arena and then pulling it out over an alleged dispute with (more than likely, former) teammate Javaris Crittenton. Usually, we at Pac10Pros like to focus on the positive things athletes are doing on the court/field, but this story is too big to ignore.

Unfortunately, there is a bigger issue here in regards to guns and athletes and their feeling that they need to be "packing heat" in order to be safe. Greater efforts need to be put in place to protect these athletes from not only outside threats, but themselves (just ask Plaxico).

We are not condoning anything Gilbert Arenas has done. Actually, his antics after the initial incident could be portrayed as a slap in the face and even playing it off like he is above the law. This post-incident issue is displayed in the picture above, where Gilbert is making guns with his hands and shooting around like a cowboy with his teammates in a pre-game huddle. This display was either extremely immature or a sign of complete ignorance.

Ultimately, we at Pac10Pros are disappointed in what has transpired. Gilbert was primed for a big season after struggling in his retun from injury. He was the main reason why the Wizards were being talked about as a playoff contender again. Now he is just being talked about his behavior off the court and is thrown into the conversation about what is wrong with sports.
